The Notification Center shows your notifications history, allowing you to scroll back and see what you've missed. There are two ways to see your alerts from the Notification Center:

  • From the Lock screen, swipe up from the middle of the screen.
  • From any other screen, swipe down from the center of the top of your screen.

To clear your notification history, touch and hold the X button and tap Clear All Notifications. Or tap the X button and tap Clear.

Manage notifications

To manage your notifications from the Lock screen or Notification Center:

  1. Swipe left over an alert or group of alerts.
  2. Tap Manage, then select from these options:
    • Deliver Quietly: These notifications appear in the Notification Center, but don't show up on the Lock screen, play sounds, or show a banner or badge icon.
    • Turn Off: This turns off all notifications for a specific app. To turn this back on, go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, and tap Allow Notifications.

You can also tap Settings to change your alert styles or alert settings for a specific app.

Change alert styles

To add or change an alert style for a notification:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. Select an app under Notification Style.
  3. Choose a type of alert and banner style.

You can also turn sounds and badges on or off.

Change group notification settings

You can use group notifications or keep them separate.

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. Select an app and tap Notification Grouping.
  3. Select one of these options:
    • Automatic: Notifications from each app will appear in groups based on app alerts.
    • By App: All notifications from each app will be grouped into single expandable alerts.
    • Off: Notifications appear in the order they’re received, without grouping.

From here you can also choose how to show notification previews for specific apps. For example, you can have notification previews show up all the time or never, even when your device is locked.

Set up location-based alerts

Some apps use your location to send you relevant alerts based on where you are. For example, you might get a reminder to call someone when you get to a specific place or when you leave for your next location.

If you don't want these type of alerts, you can turn them off. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, then tap an app to turn alerts on or off based on your location. Learn more about Location Services.

To get notifications, connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. If you still don't get notifications for a specific app, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that the app supports notifications. Go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, and make sure that Allow Notifications is on.
  2. If you have notifications turned on for an app but you're not receiving alerts, you might not have Banners selected. Go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, then select Banners.
  3. Make sure that you’re signed in to your Apple ID.
  4. Make sure that Do Not Disturb is off.
  5. If you’ve recently installed an app or restored from a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.

Especially when using a new Android device, after Software updates or the installation of a new app, it's possible that you recognize new symbols or signs in the notification bar from which you don't know the meaning, yet. The following list will give you an overwview of some of these icons and their meanings, as well as what app generates them (if they're created by an app).

The icons visible in this list can differ depending of the manufacturer and device, as well as the installed ROM; however, in general they should, at least, look similar to each other or are completely the same. /autocad-ole-object-not-displaying.html.

Visualizes that the device volume is set to 'vibrate only'.[1]
The device is set to silent mode and will not emit any notification sounds.
The mobile data is enabled and the device is currently in the GPRS network.[2]
The mobile data is enabled and the device is currently in the LTE/4G network. 4G and LTE are used as synonyms, it depends on the devices branding, what is shown.
This symbol indicates, that the device is currently connected to a mobile network and visualizes the strength of the signal (relative as bars).
The device currently is not connected to a mobile network, e.g. because the network operator does not have coverage in this area or the SIM card is deactivated.[3]
The device is connected to another mobile network, but not to the one of your operator, and uses Roamind.[4]
There's no SIM card attached to the device or the device could not recognize the SIM card correctly.
The feature Download Booster is enabled.
The WiFi is activated and connected to a WiFi network.
The symbol indicates, that WiFi calling is enabled[5]
The WiFi connection is interrupted. That can have different reasons::
  • because of a bad WiFi strength you do not get an IP address assigned or the DHCP server is misconfigured
  • The DNS server can not resolve domain names or is not reachable
  • 'no internet': Google's server are not reachable
NFC on the device is enabled.
Bluetooth is enabled.
There's an update available for the device software.[6]
USB-Debugging is enabled and the device connected to a computer at the moment.[7]
At least one alarm is configured, actvated and will be triggered at the configured time.
The symbol shows the charge state of the battery. Additionaly, the device is charged at the moment.
A screenshot from the display was created successfully. Tapping the line in the notification area will open the image in the default image viewer.
Same as above, however, the exclamation mark signals, that the image could not be saved, e.g. because of missing storage on the device or the app may block taking screenshots from it (e.g. banking apps).

The app for music recognition has added a notification to the notification bar (such as ads, charts, ..)

The feature Audioscrobbler is enabled in at least one app (, e.g.).[11]
Notifications are, e.g. in the settings or in the quick settings bar, disabled/blocked.[12]

Since Android 5000!5.0 'Lollipop' this symbol notifies, that there's an active root session.[14]
The symbol informs you, that the device, as well as the mobile network with which you're connected, supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

The app is active (which does not necessarily mean, that also profiles are activated, you can find that out by openeing the notification area by swiping down to the bottom from the notification bar).

Android recognized a, that a (new or another) SD card was inserted into the device, which is currently prepared to be useable. The symbol will disappear automatically, once the card is embedded successfully and can be used.

On Samsung devices you can find the option Advanced Calling & Messaging in the settings following the path Connections -> additional Connection settings and enables/disables RCS, something like a successor for the SMS.
[23][24] For all other devices you can look for an app called Joyn or Message+ which can be deactivated/uninstalled to get rid of this symbol.

Data Saver is enabled. To disable:
