Apple has released Apple TV Software 3.0.1, the latest software update for its set-top box. Unusually, Apple sent out an e-mail to Apple TV customers informing them of the update, and telling them that if they have installed software 3.0, that they should “immediately update” to version 3.0.1 to prevent “content from temporarily disappearing until it is resynced.”. Nothing seems to fix it. I've also did the format and reinstall firmware 1.0 then upgrade to 3.0.1 twice. Additionally, it tells me that certain files are not compatible with the Apple TV even though I know they worked fine with pre 3.0. It says it cannot playback the file, but the file plays fine on both my Macs and will even sync to my iPhone. Apple has issued a 3.0.1 update to the Apple TV to address an issue that causes content to temporarily disappear from the device. They sent out this email notifying customers: Dear Customer. All customers running Apple TV software version 3.0 should immediately restart their Apple TV and then upgrade to Apple TV software version 3.0.1. If you’ve installed the Apple TV 3.0 software update, you should immediately update to version 3.0.1. This prevents content from temporarily disappearing until it is resynced. Upgraded to AppleTV 3.0.1 last night, installed the mods. Everything is going well so far! Have all features working such as AFP, SSH, full Codec support thanks to Perian, plus the new 3.0 menu sys.

Not sure if much else has changed from 3.0, other than the bug fix :-)

Problems

I used the 3.0.1 DMG as the basis for a patchstick - ATV-USB-Creator 1.0b10 Mac - but it would not boot under 3.0.1. My 3.0 patchstick did work, however. Anyone else have this issue? [Maelgwn]

3.0.1 DMG patchstick, created with ATV-USB-Creator 1.0b10 Mac worked for me, but I had issues with XBMC Launcher until I realized I needed to use beta3:

Upgrade to XBMC 9.11 alpha and Boxee aplha 0.9.14.6992 using the new Launcher (unless you are already there); do NOT upgrade the Launcher to 3.1 as the script hacking above already has you at newer version.
